Like a Flower in a Pot

People from a planet without flowers would think we must be mad with joy the whole time, to have such things about us. ~Iris Murdoch, A Fairly Honourable Defeat.

God loved the flowers and invented soil. Man loved the flowers and invented vases. ~Variation of a saying by Jacques Deval (God loved the birds and invented trees. Man loved the birds and invented cages.)

Left Handed Cooking Spoon for my Left Handed Brother

A man spoke with the Lord about heaven and hell.

The Lord said to the man, "Come, I will show you hell."

They entered a room where a group of people sat around a huge pot of stew. Everyone was famished, desperate and starving. Each held a spoon that reached the pot, but each spoon had a handle so much longer than their own arm that it could not be used to get the stew into their own mouths. The suffering was terrible.

"Come, now I will show you heaven," the Lord said after a while.

They entered another room, identical to the first -- the pot of stew, the group of people, the same long-handled spoons. But there everyone was happy and well-nourished. "I don't understand," said the man. "Why are they happy here when they were miserable in the other room and everything was the same?"

The Lord smiled, "Ah, it is simple," he said.

"Here they have learned to feed each other."

Maa Shaa' Allah!

On this project you can see a rather modern calligraphy of the arabic expression "Maa Shaa' Allah", which is used in the presence of Beauty and Goodness, literally meaning '(this is) What Allah has wished'.
It is exclusively used to express Joy or Satisfaction. So if you like this project you can say out loud "Maa Shaa' Allah!" just as you would say Fantastic! or Brilliant! (Any will do actually...).

The stone is of natural scuplture.
The wood is plywood + varnish.
The pattern was widely inspired by the brilliant work of Husamettin Yivlik founder of the Seljuk Workshops of Istanbul, Turkey : http://www.geocities.com/SoHo/Veranda/7222/#top

Ibil - Dromedary : A Scene from the Sahara..

Hi,
Well this is a Dromedary with a Driver.
Dromedaries or Arabian Camels (With their single hump) are not to be mixed up with Bactrian Camels (Who have two). They are Amazing Creatures.

A Lamp Panel

This is one of four panels of a Lamp I am working on. the project is taking time, but I recently came across this gem of advice from http://www.scrollsawer.com/scroll-saw-tips.php Tip List :
[Completing a project will always take longer than you think. Relax and have fun; it’s the surest way to decrease cutting errors. And if you do make a mistake or two, don’t point it out to anyone! You’re the only one who knows how the pattern was supposed to look.]
Anyway ... I've found the pattern in the so valuable Fretworks site : http://www.fretworks.com.au/catalogues.htm

Wish me luck.

Simple Pattern n° 1 : [Olive Tree Leafs]

This is a simple Olive Tree Leaf pattern, that can be used for frame making. The leafs and the base are seperate pieces. After cutting out the leafs I used headless nails (I actualy cutusing wire cutters, to give them the right height) and white wood glue to assemble.
I like to think of this work as Reverse Carving. The same result (approximately..) could have been achieved with Carving technique. Or could it?
